2018 Neon Gallery, Budapest

FIELD The show includes two series, VEILS and MASK. Each has precedents in my previous work. The VEIL is preceded by the Drapery-series (1999-) where I investigated folds creating a visual system. The VEIL series (2013-) started with a small sketch of a drapery. I cropped the sketch around its contour and placed it against different backgrounds, which changed its meaning and created a tromp-l'oeil effect. Each piece of the VEIL series has its own story associated with the fabric serving as a model and the specific situation. MASKs started with the Heads series (2001-). I was interested in the geometric representation of he head, to see how nuances of character may be referenced through some rules I have set for myself. The MASKS series (2018-) was developed using technics for making pop-up books. They are attempts at turning the two-dimensional plane into three-dimensional space. The FIELD is the perceptible space of an event or the stage of action. Literally and figuratively, being in the field evokes the sense of intimacy Veils and Masks represent for me. In a game, stepping into a field is a fateful decision bringing release from the grip of a dilemma.
